The first time Batman was seen on screen was back in 1943. However, it was the 1960s TV series which really defined Batman as a TV superhero.
As popular as the TV series was, it was in marked contrast to the Batman films which followed. The Batman films, including the latest cinema release Batman Begins, were much darker and serious in tone and revealed Gotham City as the dark and moody gothic city as usually portrayed in the Comic Books.
The Batman legacy is just as strong today as it ever was, and this is reflected in the range of Batman DVDs that are available. Whether it is the camp 1960s TV series, the dark tones of the cinema releases, or indeed the various animated Batman cartoons, they are well featured on the DVD format.
